This initiative is marked by a celebration of the “World Zero Waste Day” on the 30th of March each year, following the decision made during the United Nations General Assembly meeting on December 14, 2022. This decision addressed the environmental and human threats posed by global waste overflow.
The event took place at the Early Childhood Development Center of Phraeksa Mai Municipality, attended by 240 childrens ranging from preparatory levels to kindergarten 3. The collaboration involved Mr. Abinash Majhi, the CEO of Eastern Energy Plus Co., Ltd., and Mr. Amnui Boonriw, the Mayor of Phraeksa Mai Municipality. Both leaders shared a common understanding of the resolutions discussed during the international assembly, leading to the declaration of March 30 as “World Zero Waste Day.”
The purpose of the celebration on December 14, 2023 was to kickstart a movement in promoting a zero-waste lifestyle among young children. The aim is to cultivate awareness and understanding of waste reduction practices from an early age, with the hope that these children will grow up to be environmentally conscious adults. The concept of a waste-free society involves the practice of the 1A3Rs principle: Avoid, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
The event included activities focused on the principles of Zero Waste living, emphasizing that individuals, families, and communities should take responsibility for waste reduction. The hope is that, as these children mature into adults, they will contribute to creating a high-quality population that understands and actively manages community waste, striving towards a Zero Waste lifestyle. The ultimate goal is for Samut Prakan to effectively address community waste issues and become a Zero Waste Province through the efficient management of waste systems at the household, local government, and disposal levels. This comprehensive waste management system involves public awareness, local government involvement, and efficient waste disposal methods aligned with international standards.
In summary, the collaboration between EEP Group and Phraeksa Mai Municipality seeks to instill a Zero Waste mindset in the community, starting with the younger generation. The celebration of World Zero Waste Day serves as a catalyst for promoting values that lead to a waste-free lifestyle, with the aspiration of creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly province in Samut Prakan.
